Our Coaching Institute Graduates
Name: Dee Berman
Your previous job:
Assistant Public Defender for the State of Missouri
How long did you work there?
11 ½ years
What was your position?
Criminal Defense Attorney. I represented clients on misdemeanors, felonies and death penalty cases.
When/why did you decide to learn coaching?
I started coaching in 2003 because I loved the idea of coaching. I had been a Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist for 14 years before I went to law school. I was trained using a medical model, which viewed the patient as sick - having something wrong with them. I did not like this approach. Coaching really appealed to me because it comes from a position of what is working well/right with the client and how can we make it even better.
What symptoms did you have that prompted this career change decision?
I started coaching before I retired. My position at the public defender office was downsized and I had the choice of going to a different office but I was ready to retire and become a coach.
What skills now benefit you and/or your company?
I work with strengths, talents, setting goals, accountability, focus and clarity, using powerful questions, observations and requests, as well as listening to not only the words but also the music behind the words, without judgment. I encourage and empower my clients to seek the answers and solutions within themselves, as the authority for what is best for them. I use the coaching skill sets that I learned in coach training, spirituality and the Law of Attraction.
Any other comments or examples you want to mention regarding how your training at The Coaching Institute has changed/benefited your life and/or career and those around you?
I have increased confidence and trust in myself. I embrace who I am and bringing my experiences and skills to the coaching relationship. I have been able to integrate the coaching skills I have learned with my own style. I know focus on what I want and trust that the Universe will support me.
If somebody has a question and wants to email you to ask personally – can they?
Absolutely
