Our Coaching Institute Graduates
Name: Mary Bigler
Your current job:
I am currently still working as a physical therapist assistant in skilled nursing facilities while I continue to transition into coaching. (Three years in skilled care and ten years in outpatient orthopedics.)
What I do as a coach:
My practice is based on a spiritual foundation and the principles that Abraham Hicks, Wayne Dyer, and other authors and spiritual leaders espouse. Namely the laws of attraction, deliberate creation and allowing.
When/why did you decide to learn coaching?
I have been a life-long student in the areas of personal and spiritual growth. I love to learn and teach. I value knowledge and wisdom and connection to others. I also value creativity, variety and finding myriad ways to add passion and joy to life experiences.
I have been in Physical Therapy for 13 years and, prior to this career, I was a social worker in myriad settings.
Other jobs have included personal fitness training, aerobics instructor, nutritional consultant, bartender and waitress. All themes of service in one fashion or another. When I realized a change was imminent, I researched options. I found that the authors and career people I was most interested in, had affiliations to coaching. It seemed a logical transition and after 3 years of investigating and sitting on the fence, I hired a coach and was led to Coach Institute on his recommendation.
What symptoms did I have that led me to coaching:
Burn-out, boredom, lack of creativity or advancement, sometimes long hours with low pay, physically too demanding at times, desire to work with 'well' individuals who are excited about learning new ways of being.
What skills now benefit you and/or your company?
Deep listening, deliberately listening without judgment or agendas, being fully present with myself, my intentions and with others. Maintaining an attitude of gratitude and reverence.
Favorite things I learned about myself/aha moments:
To be ok with where I am in any situation which I find to be less than my ideal. To open myself to all the beauty and joy that surrounds me each and every day and really 'see' it. To be even more appreciative of my loving and supportive family.
Favorite hobbies:
Monday Night football and the Green Bay Packers. I have been collecting memorabilia since the early 60s; writing and I just completed an e-book on the laws of attraction. It is being edited now.
